Nashville, Tennessee Tree Farm Surprise Engagement Photoshoot.
Surprise Engagements are the way to go when proposing to your significant other. I was beyond excited to book a couple session for one of my best friends. I was even more excited when her boyfriend, at the time, messaged me to say that he planned to propose during the tree farm part of the session. This day was perfect, really sunny, but perfect. This blog is going to be a little about that day and all the ways I prepared for this shoot!
Located in Nashville, Tennessee, we started the day at the Grand Ole Opry Hotel. We walked throughout all the different areas, taking pictures, and reminiscing about our grade school days. Although this place is really nice to take pictures, I was more excited for the Nashville Tree Farm! That was our next stop. This Tree Farm was called Santa’s Trees located in East Nashville, Tennessee. Her boyfriend called the week before and checked to see if it was allowed to take pictures there (**PRO TIP**). We had their other friend meet us there and surprise the couple after they got engaged. It was a mix of making sure I set up a tripod to capture a video and being ready to snap away when he got on one knee. This moment was perfect. We spent the next few minutes living in the moment and celebrating. After this, we did an engagement session! Even though I was STRESSED. I learned a lot and prepared for everything ahead of time.
Let’s get into my tips. Tip 1, Prepare ahead of time. I packed several things in my bag. Different lenses, makeup, makeup wipes, blankets, extra batteries, and more. I was ready for anything, even rain on a cloudless, sunny day! Tip 2, Know how to set settings. We went from an inside location to a SUPER sunny location, so getting the settings right were a little challenging. I do this as a hobby, but I am a perfectionist. This is something that I think you always need to review and always practice, so it becomes second nature. Tip 3 do not be afraid tell the models that they look stiff or awkward. My goal through my photography is to capture moments, and not so much forced moments. It does help if you know the people beforehand but spend a few minutes before your session to get to know the person or the couple. You will be surprised what all you pick up on in a casual conversation. Ask them about their relationship or how they got together.
